Glad to see that there.

nevermind I never heard of Stalwart!

This idea was brought up by <@151491582208638976> and i think it has a lot of promise. What do you think of a hack-on-a-single-thing project night with HOSS? We could market this with some kind of catchy AI tag line -- "bring your tokens."

The idea here would be,

  • Lots of brains on one thing.
  • Give back to Open Source.
  • See how others handle development.

I think there are a few ideas we could tackle

  1. A Jellyfin rewrite in Rust, moving the project of of C# would be a huge undertaking but this would grab headlines.
  2. A backend for Proton Mail. Currently the Proton Mail frontend is open source. We could create a backend product for it allowing people to self-host Proton Mail.
  3. A reimplementation of Codeberg Pages. This is probably the most boring one, but i'm confident if we made this scale we would be developing a product the world needs. Github Pages is proprietary. Codeberg Pages is deprecated (though we use it for our own site). Making a new Rust-based Codeberg Pages with streaming compression would be a huge contribution.

We could go with something else too. So we can open up the idea.

Where should we meet after The Ion?

@everyone Please take part in the poll above. Yesterday when went to the Houston Beer Social, I took pictures but not of the group πŸ™ nor of the Taco Truck πŸ™ but I did snap pictures of Houston Beer Social. And I was able to get them up on the website. This also introduces the new Social Gatherings section of the site, as we move closer to making this a thing, even if only once a month or so. And if you don't like Social Beer Garden HTX, or you want pizza or you want to try another place in midtown, give it a shout! https://houstonopensourcesociety.com/socials/venues/social-beer-garden-htx/

About to upload a new version of the site with a dedication to social outings. πŸ™‚

When we meet at The Ion, they want groups out at 8 PM. This is an hour before we normally part. How do we want to handle this? Should we schedule an after-meet party? Do people want to do tacos and bar, or is there interest in pizza?

One day I would really like to kick off is an Infosec Day. Maybe we could sucker <@262853561791152138> in, or <@217473450871226369>. πŸ˜› I think we should add 2 goals for HOSS in 2026, we gotta get Ragul out, and we gotta get his dad out too. HAHA is running circles around us there.

That’s fair, we should see about that too

We can in the near future. Currently, the attendance of women is relatively very low ; you will also be surprised how small the women group is in total. I would not say a women only presentation day is what we need, I would say we need higher attendance .. Otherwise, I think we also need more socializing opportunities for the women group; tech without fun is not tech πŸ™‚

I don't know how many members Women of HOSS currently has, but if they have a large group, we could do a "Women of HOSS takeover" event where the only Women of HOSS present topics that day?

<@1364746893938266152>, what do you think?

Brian Brian

I suggested that we do a non wednesday event on like saturday, as a Science Fair type thing.

Evan suggested that maybe we work on a project and come together and talk about it quarterly.

Moises suggested that we do a "How to set up Home Automation" event.
